In November of this year, I had the opportunity to meet a representative from the Pomp and Whimsy Gin company. During the session, my coworkers and I were told some of the nuances that make the Pomp and Whimsy Gin so distinct and wonderful.
I’m not going to lie, I’m not a massive gin drinker but I was looking forward to trying this particular gin after hearing some great things from my co-workers. They said it would be different from some of the previous gins I tried in the past and should look forward to expanding my gin horizons with this one. So, I was pretty excited to add something new to my palette. let’s start at the beginning.
The Pomp & Whimsey Story
Pomp and Whimsy Gin Liqueur is the brainchild of Dr. Nicola Nice, a sociologist who, after working with the R&D of several liquor companies, saw an opportunity to provide a product for a market that felt unsatisfied and unfulfilled.
Women wanted a spirit that made them feel empowered, a spirit that was not under or overly feminine, basically, a spirit that tasted great for all genders, and let me tell you, does it taste great, but we’ll get there. She saw her opportunity and she took it.
After its grand entrance in California last year, the Pomp and Whimsy brand has spread across the country, and that’s how I was lucky enough to meet this special gin. It’s what they call in the movies a “meet-cute”.
The First Thing that Stood Out
I’m standing around the table with my peers as we lift the glass and inhale the scent. Take a second to imagine the most wonderfully elegant fragrance that made you fall in love before you even landed eyes on that special someone, right before they tap you on the shoulder and all of a sudden, you’re floating off the ground. That was my experience in a nutshell.
The notes that hit me first were the hints of melon and floral, but on a second whiff, the cucumber, lemon, and juniper notes hit me. You will be transported to your happy place. I found myself first walking the grounds of a Parisian palace inhaling the roses, and then the swankiest top-floor penthouse overlooking the entire city, but anyway that’s just me.
The amalgamation of aromas was so sophisticated and beautiful, I skipped the “all together now” and went straight for it. Call me impulsive.
Well, How Does It Taste?
I’ll try to make this as concise as possible. Subtly sweet, fruity and layered, citrusy and smooth, effortless to drink straight, or mixed. Pomp and Whimsy Gin liqueur, 10/10 for sure.
Can you actually mix it? Absolutely. You can mix it with tonic, sparkling water, or champagne for a simple mix, and for classic recipes that include gin, you can now substitute regular gin with Pomp and Whimsy for a bolder flavor.
Along with our tasting, our awesome rep handed us a cocktail pamphlet with several different recipes, and we will be making some of those cocktails ( look out for that post in the near future). For more info, please check out their website pompandwhimsy.com – you will not be disappointed.
Conclusion: Pomp and Whimsy Gin Review
I highly suggest that someone make a Pomp and Whimsy perfume because I would definitely invest. I’m going to skip the usual bottle of whatever gin I get from my local spirits shop this year and find myself a bottle of Pomp and Whimsy Gin Liqueur to give my loved ones this Christmas, and an extra one just for myself.
