On the surface, you might not think that the ingredients in this cocktail would work as I did, but boy was I wrong. I recently had a Blood and Sand Cocktail at Oscar Wilde in NYC, and it is now in my top ten favorite cocktails of all time.
Ingredients
- .75 oz Scotch Whiskey
- .75 oz Heering Cherry Liqueur
- .75 oz Italian Sweet Vermouth
- .75 fresh orange juice
- Flamed Orange Zest Coin
Directions
Shake all the ingredients (except the garnish) well with ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with the flamed orange zest coin.
2. Satan’s Whiskers
Said you were going to resist drinking too much tonight? The temptation is too strong.
The smooth flavor and intoxicating palate on this cocktail might lure you in all night. And the tall red dude with the horns at the party has been twirling his whiskers all night. That can’t be good.
Ingredients
- 1 oz Gin
- .50 oz Italiani sweet vermouth
- .50 oz Dry Vermouth
- .50 oz Grand Marnier
- 1 oz Fresh Orange Juice
- Dash of Angostura Bitters
- Dash of Orange Bitters
- Flamed orange zest coin for garnish
Directions
- Shake all of the ingredients (except the garnish) with ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
- Garnish with flamed orange zest coin.
3. Zombie
We’re not talking about the slow creepy ones either, we’re talking 28 days later, sprinting full speed at you zombies. See if you can outrun this cocktail. It’ll only take a few sips before you’ll start turning into one of… them!
Ingredients
- 1 oz Dark Rum
- 1.50 oz Jamaican Dark Rum
- 1 oz Lemon Hart 151 proof Demerara rum
- 1 oz Joseph Cartron Curacao Orange
- .50 oz John D Taylor’s Velvet Falernum
- .75 oz lime juice
- .50 oz Don’s Mix
- .25 oz Grenadine, Homemade or store bought
- 2 dashes of Angostura bitters
- .50 oz cup of cracked ice
- sprig of fresh mint for garnish
Directions
- Assemble all the ingredients (except the garnish) in a blender and blend for 7 seconds.
- Pour into a chimney glass and garnish with the mint sprig.
4. Strange Brew
Perfect for all the witches who want to fill their cauldrons with something a little strange this year. You might have to omit the rabbit’s foot this time, we don’t want Dave crawling across the ceiling like last year…or do we?
Ingredient
- 2 oz Tanqueray Gin
- .75 oz John D. Taylor’s Velvet Falernum
- 1 oz Unsweetened pineapple juice
- .50 oz lemon juice
- 3 oz hoppy IPA beer
- Fresh Mint sprig for garnish
Directions
Shake the first four ingredients with ice and strain into a pilsner glass without ice. Top Slowly with the beer. Garnish with the mint sprig.
5. Bull’s Blood
Some people like to take the bull by the horns. I prefer to bite directly into it with my fangs. It’s a lot simpler that way and you get to keep the horns after. Work smarter not harder my friends.
Ingredients
- .75 oz Dark rum
- .75 oz marie brizard orange curacao
- .75 oz cardenal mendoza spanish brandy
- 1 oz fresh orange juice
- flamed orange zest coin

6. The Corpse Reviver
So I accidentally spilled my corpse reviver cocktail while walking through the cemetery Now look at me! Sitting at the table with my great-grandma, some dude from the civil war, and my bunny snuggles.
Ingredients
- .75 oz Tanqueray No.Ten Gin
- .75 oz Cointreau
- .75 oz Lillet Blanc
- .75 oz fresh lemon juice
- Dash or a spritz of Jade Esprit Edouard Absinthe Superieure
Directions
Shake the first four ingredients well with ice and strain them into a chilled cocktail glass. Dash or spritz the surface of the drink with the absinthe.
7. Dark and Stormy
It’s a Dark and Stormy night, you’re texting your mom to pick you up from the bar. She pulls up in front and smiles at you. You run quickly and get in the back seat. You thank your mom for getting there so fast. You get a text saying “alright I’m on my way, don’t move”. You lock eyes with the woman through the rearview mirror. She locks the door, smiles, and drives away.
Ingredients
- 2 oz Gosling’s Black Seal Bermuda Black Rum
- 4 oz Ginger Beer
- Lime wedge for garnish
Directions
Pour the rum over ice in a highball glass and fill it with the ginger beer. squeeze in the lime wedge.
8. Psycho Killer
I turned on the news last night right before bed and saw that my local prison asylum is missing one of its most insane murderers. My wife was so scared she screamed. I laughed. Even the guy hiding underneath my bed laughed.

Ingredients
- 2 oz Irish Whiskey
- .75 oz Campari
- .50 oz white creme de cacao
- .50 oz crème de banane (banana liqueur)
- 2 dashes of absinthe
9. Harvest Moon Punch (Serves 20)
The harvest moon punch is great for all kinds of social gatherings. Although last time I had some, I woke up naked in the forest surrounded by my work friends in black robes. I must have been the guest of honor because they drew a giant star on the ground around me. I wasn’t freaked out, I just wanted some more of that punch!
Ingredients
- 1½ Bottle Bourbon
- 1 gallon of fresh apple cider
- 6 whole star anise
- 6 cinnamon sticks, plus more for garnish
- 6 whole cloves
- 8 oz brown sugar or demerara syrup
- Zest of 1 whole orange with very little white pith
Directions
Combine the apple cider, star anise, cinnamon sticks, cloves, syrup, and orange zest in a large stainless steel pot and let simmer over low heat for 30 to 40 minutes. Do not boil. Add the bourbon and simmer for another couple of minutes just to warm the whiskey. strain to remove all the spices and serve.
Notes
For a nonalcoholic version of the drink, simply omit the bourbon.
Fun Notes
For a party, you can serve the punch in a hollowed-out pumpkin: Prepare the pumpkin by cutting a lid as you would for a jack-o-lantern. Clean the lid piece by cutting away the pumpkin strands and seeds; save all of the seeds (see below). Use a long-handled spoon, clean the inside of the pumpkin, being careful to leave a thick pumpkin wall to ensure there are no punctures in the skin on the sides or the bottom.
When the pumpkin is clean, rinse the inside with cool water, checking for leaks in the skin. Fill the pumpkin with the warm punch and replace the lid to retain the heat. Using a ladle, serve it in ceramic mugs and garnish with cinnamon sticks.

Clean and roast the pumpkin seeds and bake them on a greased cookie sheet in a preheated 350° F oven for 8-10 minutes, until crisp and golden. Remove from the oven and season to taste with salt, ground cumin, and ground allspice and serve with the punch.
10. The White Lady
Just to clarify, we’re not talking about the “can I speak to your manager” lady, we’re talking about the pale decaying lady who appears in the mirror behind you every time you brush your teeth…actually they might be the same person.
Ingredients
- 1.5oz Beefeaters Gin
- .75 oz Lemon juice
- 1 oz Cointreau
- .50 oz emulsified egg white
Directions
Shake all the ingredients well with ice until the egg is fully emulsified and strain into a cocktail glass.
