History of the Japanese cocktail

The Japanese Cocktail is a classic cocktail that was first introduced in Jerry Thomas’ 1862 book “The Bar-Tender’s Guide”. It is made with cognac, orgeat syrup, and bitters, and is said to have been inspired by the arrival of the first Japanese delegation to the United States in 1860. The cocktail was created to honor the delegation’s visit and is often described as a fusion of American and Japanese flavors. The Japanese Cocktail has been a popular drink in bars around the world ever since.

Ingredients

• 2 Ounces Martel VSOP Cognac

• .50 Ounces Orgeat

• 3 Dashes of bitter truth bogart bitters

• Lemon zest coin for garnish

Directions

• Assemble the ingredients (except the garnish) in an old fashioned glass with ice and stir well.
• Express the oil of the lemon zest coin over the drink and drop it in.
