Who is Mary Pickford and why is there a cocktail named after her?

Mary Pickford was a famous Canadian-American actress who became one of the most popular actresses of the silent film era. She was a co-founder of United Artists studio and one of the original 36 founders of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

The Mary Pickford cocktail was created in the 1920s in honor of her popularity and success. It is made with white rum, pineapple juice, grenadine, and maraschino liqueur. The drink was said to be one of Pickford’s favorites and was named after her because of its light, refreshing taste, which was seen to match her sparkling personality

Ingredients

• 2 Ounces White rum

• 1.50 Ounces Pineapple juice

• .25 Ounces Luxardo maraschino liqueur

• Splash grenadine , homemade or store bought

• Bordeaux cherry, for garnish

Directions

• Shake all ingredients (except the garnish) with ice and strain into a chilled Nick and Nora glass.
• Garnish with a cherry.
