Spread the love

Are you guys ready for some Bloody Marys? And I’m not talking about the three Bloody Marys it takes to conjure some supernatural stuff (I’ll explain that later for the young ones). I’m talking about all the Bloody Mary variations you probably didn’t know about.

If you need a refresher on how an original Bloody Mary is made, check out our Bloody Mary post to get caught up to speed. If you love the Bloody Mary, then today we’re going to show you six different Bloody Mary recipes and variations that you can try at home. But before we jump into, maybe first you would like to finally know…

What happens if you say bloody mary three times in the mirror?

You probably know the tomato juice-based cocktail named the Bloody Mary, but you probably never heard of the story behind the Bloody Mary folklore (I mean, if you heard of the cocktail, you’ve probably heard of the folklore but let’s just move on).

Legend has it that if you walk up a flight of stairs backward, look into a mirror in the dark, and say “Bloody Mary” three times, you’ll either see a view of your future husband or a skull looking back at you. If you see the skull, that means that you are destined to die before ever having the chance to marry.

My wife says that when she said it, she saw me staring back at her drinking a Bloody Mary. Spooky, I know. Now onto the cocktails!

Tips before we get started

Here are some words you’ll see across all of the following recipes. As you know, with cocktails, you can shake or stir, but for the following recipes, we are going to use the roll method of mixing. Rolling requires a Boston shaker, whether it’s two metal tins or one glass & one metal tin. To roll a cocktail means to pour a drink back and forth between the two parts of a cocktail shaker. Vigorously shaking tomato juice creates an unpleasant foamy consistency.

Finally, as we have stated in our previous Bloody Mary post, you can strain into any glass you prefer, but we typically like to use a highball or pint glass. Oh, and you should strain with a Hawthorne strainer.
